With the end of October right around the corner, kids are waiting for Halloween, with all its fun and delightful scariness. Trick-or-treating, candy eating, and costume parties, await many who celebrate this magical holiday.
Adults and kids alike love costumes and dressing up for Halloween. Some would say that Halloween was the perfect holiday for craftspeople, and artists. There are so many ways to be creative and imaginative during this fall holiday season. Sewing costumes and decorations for kid’s Halloween celebrations and adult costume parties provide fun for the entire family.
Have fun with these creative, but simple ideas:
1.) Halloween trick-or-treat bags are a cool sewing project for this holiday. Kids will love learning how to make their own treat bags, which are way better than brown lunch bags, or generic Halloween bags from the market. These bags can be personalized with your kids favorite jack-o-lantern or ghost decals, or even their names.
2.) For the adults, making fabric-covered Halloween pumpkins are great for household decorations. Grab some smaller pumpkins and gather up some material scraps in orange and black for the classic colors of the holiday, or get creative with non-traditional colors and patters, then fashion the fabric on your pumpkins with glue or Mod Podge to make them unique and decorative! This is a fun and creative sewing project, and easier than carving jack-o-lanterns (and less messy).
3.) Older children, such as teens, who may feel goofy in costumes, but still like to hang out on Halloween and be a part of the celebration, would love making festive, customized Halloween t-shirts. Teens and parents can get a basic t-shirt pattern and sew ghostly decals on the front and back. If making the t-shirt is too time consuming, buy a basic white, black, or orange t-shirt, and decorate them by sewing on Halloween decals.
4.) Halloween table runners are unique and gorgeous. Use them to display kid’s treats, adult party snacks, or both. Purchase a pattern for table runners, or design your own, and use colorful seasonal fabrics. If ghosts and goblins are a bit too cheesy for you and your friends, some fabulous Fall colors will be perfect. Once Halloween is over, the table runner can be used through the Thanksgiving holidays.
